Everyone loves a good snack mix during the holidays. Christmas Puppy Chow mix made with rice square cereal is gluten free which makes it awesome for people like me! It is a fun recipe because it can be topped and mixed with any number of sweet ingredients to add flavor and colors.

Ingredients

  • 6 Cups Rice Squares Cereal
  • 3/4 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 Cup White Chocolate Morsels
  • Toppings to Mix In (Chocolate Chips, Marshmallows, Peppermint)

You will also need PARCHMENT PAPER! This is the BEST way to line baking pans and dishes. It is great for pouring melted candy too.

Directions for Making Christmas Puppy Chow

The directions are really easy. The tips and tricks that I am sharing for the recipe will make it far less messy and therefore way more fun!

Step One

Line a large baking sheet (like LARGE) with parchment paper. Pour the rice squares (cereal) onto the parchment paper and use your hands to spread it out and get it even.

Step Two

Melt the white chocolate chips and the peanut butter together. This can be done in the microwave or in a double boiler pan. If you do it in the microwave, start at 45 second then stir. Add 15 seconds at a time until it is all melted and stirs easily.

Pour the melted chocolate and peanut butter over the rice squares, spreading it out as much as possible. Use your hands to mix it a bit, trying to cover as much of the cereal as possible. Sometimes lifting the parchment paper from corner to corner works nicely too!

Step Three

While the mixture is still HOT, add the extra. We used marshmallows, milk chocolate morsels and peppermint bark that came in a mixed pack. You can also use sprinkles and other candies if you want.

  • Drop a few off at the local coffee shop with fun pencils to spread some happy.
  • Cut them up to make cards, gift wrap and decorations.
