Margaritas and Mexican Martini recipes are my specialty! I’m the go-to mixer in my circle of friends when it comes to these co*cktails. My easy limeade margarita is deliciously tangy and with two additional ingredients, it’s easy to turn it into a smooth Mexican Martini.

Simply start with an easy margarita recipe and take it to the next level of tasty! Here’s how to make a Mexican Martini.

Margarita on the left, Mexican Martini recipe on the right.

Have you ever tried a Mexican Martini? In Texas (especially in Austin), we love them. The benefit of a Mexican Martini, is the wonderfully smoother taste over a standard margarita.

Don’t get me wrong, I love margaritas and make a batch at least once a week. When the mood strikes, I take it up a notch and make a Mexican Martini.

What is a Mexican Martini?

To clear up any confusion, let me point out that the Mexican Martini tastes nothing like a typical martini. The Margarita and Mexican Martini recipes are very similar, yet distinctively different co*cktails.

The martini portion of the name really comes more from how it is served and garnished. And like a Dirty Martini, the green olive brine (the olive juice in the jar) is a key ingredient in the Mexican Martini. It’s the smoothing ingredient.

The Mexican Martini.

How to Make a Mexican Martini

In order to make the best Mexican Martini, we have to start the best Margarita recipe! Here in Texas, margaritas are a true staple.

A tasty classic margarita is almost clear with a slight yellow-green hue, not vibrant green with an overbearing lime taste often served at restaurants.

The key to a great margarita is Limeade. I know there are many margarita mixes available, but I can attest that Limeade makes a fantastically fresh co*cktail mix.

To turn a margarita into a Mexican Martini, we’ll add two ingredients:

  • Orange juice
  • Green olive juice (olive brine)

It is amazing how these two additional ingredients change the whole flavor of a margarita into a Mexican Martini.

How to Serve a Mexican Martini

This co*cktail takes the best parts of a margarita and martini. While a classic margarita is served on the rocks, the Mexican Martini is presented more like a traditional martini.

A Mexican Martini is chilled in a shaker and strained into a martini glass with a salted rim. And don’t forget the garnish! The green olives are a must and decorated with an orange and lime slice.

First, Start with the Best Margarita Recipe (Single Serving)

This minute maid limeade Margarita recipe is the best. Limeade is a wonderfully fresh tasting way to get the lime flavor of a Margarita. I don’t know what else Limeade is used for, but it’s often low in stock at the local grocery stores here in Texas. I suspect we’re all making a lot of co*cktails!

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz of Tequila
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau (or Triple Sec if you don’t have Cointreau)
  • 6 oz of Limeade

A quick note about Triple Sec vs Cointreau. Cointreau does taste smoother than Triple Sec. It also typically has a little higher alcohol content. You can go either way, but Cointreau is my top choice.

Directions:

  1. Take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of a margarita glass, then dip the glass into coarse margarita salt.
  2. Fill the glass with crushed ice and pour in the margarita mixture.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Here’s where you stop if you just want the Margarita – it’s honestly delicious.

Mexican Martini Ingredients (Single Serve):

Now let’s make it into a Mexican Martini. Use the above single serve Margarita mixture and pour it into a shaker.

Add the following ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of green olive juice.
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed orange juice.

Mexican Martini Directions:

  1. Add ice into the shaker.
  2. Shake well and pour into a salted rim martini glass.
  3. Garnish with green olives, orange slice and a lime slice.

Once you have consumed two, you must move on to a soft drink, such as wine or a gin and tonic. The reasons for this are obvious and I try to adhere to this rule at home.
