How to download a DAISY book on a Windows computer

Step 1: Find a book

1. Enter the following address in your Internet browser:celalibrary.ca
2. Go to theSearchbox.
3. Enter the title or keywords for the book you want to downloadand select theSearchbutton. In this example, we will be searching for the bookHeart berries a memoir.
   A new page with yourSearch resultswill display.
4. Find the title.
   

Step 2: Get it!

1. Under the title and book summary,you will find theGet it! optionsmenu. From theGet it! optionsmenu, selectDAISY download (ZIP)formatand then select theGet it!button.
   A pop-up appears, informing you that the title will soon be ready on the Available ZIP files for download page.
2. SelectOKto close the pop-up.
   If you’re prompted to sign in, enter your library account number and password, and select theLog inbutton.
3. Select My Account.
4. Select Available ZIP files for download.
   When the file is available for download, it will become available on the screen.
   

Step 3: Save the file

1. When the file appears on screen, select theDownloadlink.
   An Open / Save dialogue box will appear near the bottom of the screen.
2. Select the down arrow beside theSavebutton. From the list of options selectSave as.
   JAWS tip:To focus JAWS on the Open / Save dialogue box you will need to pressALT + N. Once there, tab until you hear “Save split button”. Down arrow until you hearSave asand select that option.
3. Selectwhere you want to savethe file on your computer.
4. Select theSavebutton.
   Your file will start to download. Your Internet browser will indicate thesize of the fileand itsdownload status.
   

Step 4: Play the book or transfer it to your device

To unzip a DAISY book:

1. When the download is complete the buttons in the Open / Save dialogue box will change.SelectOpen. If you have closed this dialogue box in error simply find the file on your computer and open it.
   The downloaded zip folder will open displaying all the files.
2. SelectExtract all files.
   TheExtractCompressed (Zipped) Folderswizardwill open.
3. You can select where you’d like theextracted folder to be but most people should leave it as is. SelectExtract.
   Windows folder view will open, with a list of files. This the folder containing your unzipped DAISY book. You can use this unzipped book with your DAISY software or transfer it to a device.
   

How to download a DAISY book on a Mac

This tutorial teaches you how to download a DAISY book on a Mac computer using Safari. This tutorial was written using Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10. Some of the steps will vary, depending on your setup.

Step 1: Find a book

1. Enter the following address in your Internet browser:celalibrary.ca

4. Find the title. Within the title summary box is theGet it! optionsmenu.

   A pop-up appears, informing you that the title will soon be ready on the Available ZIP files for download page.
2. SelectOKto close the pop-up.
   If you’re prompted to sign in, enter your library account number and password, and select theLog inbutton.
3. Select My Account.
4. Select Available ZIPs to download.
   When the file is available for download, it will become available on the screen.
5. Select theDownloadlink.
   The Download dialogue box will appear and your file will start to download. The Download dialogue box will indicate the size of the file and its download status.

1. When the download is complete, selecttheShow Downloadsbuttonat the top-right corner of the Safari window.
2. Select the magnifying glassnext to the filename in the downloads listOR you can retrieve the fileby going toFinder > Home > Downloads.
3. Open the file.
   The file will unzip to a new folder with the same name.This the folder containing your unzipped DAISY book.
4. Open the new folder. You can use this unzipped book with your DAISY software or transfer it to a device.
